Marketing Your Coworking Space on a Budget

Promoting your coworking space is no small feat, but getting the word out doesn’t always have to break the bank. Here are some tried-and-true, budget-friendly marketing strategies that have worked for us at our own spaces.

4) Community Events

Hosting events for your community is a fantastic way to bring people through your doors and show off your space. Here are a few ideas:

  • Workshops: Offer skill-building sessions like coding bootcamps, marketing 101, etc. These can attract a variety of professionals looking to enhance their skills.

  • Networking Nights: Host casual meetups where members and non-members can mingle, share ideas, and make connections. Provide snacks and drinks to create a welcoming atmosphere and demonstrate some of your amenities.

  • Open Houses: Invite the local community to tour your space. Offer refreshments and maybe even a small presentation about the benefits of coworking.

When hosting these, be sure to leave the focus on the events themselves - but make information about your space very accessible (flyers at the door, door hangers on available offices/desks, etc).

3) Referral Programs

Word of mouth is powerful, and who better to champion your space than those that enjoy it enough to be active members. Create a referral program that rewards your current members for bringing in friends or colleagues. Consider:

  • $50 for Each New Signup: If an active member refers someone who signs up, give them $50 off their next month’s rent. It’s a win-win: you get new members, and your existing members feel appreciated.

2) Signage Outside

Never underestimate the power of a good window sign, especially in high-traffic areas. Clear, attractive signage can grab the attention of passersby and pique their interest. Here are some tips:

  • Less Is More: Make sure your sign is easy to read from a distance. “Coworking Space Available".

  • Highlight Key Features: Mention things like “24/7 Access”, “High-Speed Wi-Fi”, or “Flexible Memberships”.

  • Keep It Fresh: Update your signage regularly to keep it looking clean and relevant.

  • Make it Easy: Get rid of the guesswork, list your prices. "Flex Plans $150/mo", "Offices Starting @ $400/mo".

1) Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist

The quality of leads here can be hit or miss, but this is by far the most powerful marketing tool we’ve used ourselves for our spaces - and it doesn’t cost a dime. Listings on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist can attract a wide audience looking for flexible office solutions. Be sure to:

  • Include Photos: Show off your space with high-quality images that highlight individual spaces, your amenities, the general location, the work environment, etc.

  • Write a Detailed Description: Explain what makes your space unique, your pricing options, and any special features that set you apart.

  • Set expectations: Save yourself a lot of hassle by laying out exactly what is allowed, and what isn’t, in your space. “Not a living space”, “no retail”, etc are all notes that we’ve had to include on our posts in the past.

Final Thoughts

Marketing your coworking space doesn’t have to be expensive. With a bit of creativity and community focus, you can attract new members without draining your budget. Try out these strategies and see what works best for you.
